About Us

Our Beginning

Prairie Fire Performance Dogs began in 2025 with two people (Kali Mitchin and Kelli Bausch) and a dream of a friendly, inclusive dog club where people could come together to support one another's goals with their dogs - even if those goals were different! In less than a year those numbers exploded into over 80+ people in the NE Kansas and surrounding areas who wanted to be apart of the that community! Our mindset from the beginning has been "How can we help to bring the things you want to see to our area?", so committees of likeminded folks quickly formed and we now have active groups for UKC Rally, Nose Work, Weight Pull, Dock Jumping, Precision Coursing/DASH, Conformation, a Juniors Program, Community Service Projects, and more! We also support clubs and dog training groups in our area that may not be UKC sanctioned (like Barn Hunt and Disc) but are still excellent ways to spend time with your dogs.

Monthly Meetings

Our club meets at various locations across NE Kansas on the 1st Wednesday of each month. We also host a myriad of other events throughout the year that are centered around fun training opportunities and community activities.

Volunteering

Our members are the gears that make PFPD move! Each member of PFPD holds at least one collateral duty within the club to help spread the load of work required to run smoothly. There are endless possibilities for helping the club succeed and we have an enormous list of options to choose from!

what we do

UKC RALLY

Rally Obedience is a fun demonstration of a dog and handler’s ability to perform basic obedience exercises. Dog and handler teams appear to be dancing in this fast flowing competitive event.

Modeled after Rally style car racing, Rally Obedience is a course of exercises that you follow by reading the instructional and directional signs. These events are open to all dog and handler teams wanting to build teamwork and to challenge their skills navigating the course together. Think "Simon Says", but with your dog!

UKC NOSEWORK

Nosework is a great game for every dog who loves to use their sense of smell.

Modeled after working detection dogs, this activity provides a safe and enriching scenario that can be easily performed anywhere and builds a trusting and lasting relationship between handler and dog.

The concept of Nosework is that all handlers, and all dogs, regardless of physical structure, should have the opportunity to participate and experience success.

UKC CONFORMATION

Conformation is a competitive event open to purebred dogs, designed to evaluate a dog’s external appearance and structure as it compares to their breed standard.

UKC offers not only regular Conformation but also offers classes which are open to altered purebred dogs allowing exhibitors and breeders to showcase their canine companions. Conformation is unique from other registries as we do not allow the use of professional handlers creating a venue in which the owner-handler can excel.

UKC DASH & STEEPLECHASE

UKC DASH & STEEPLECHASE

Active dogs enjoy this fast-paced sport where they pursue an artificial lure through a safely enclosed course. Beat the clock to earn a leg!

in DASH, each dog runs individually down a 50 yard track where their times are recorded and logged to earn them titles. Steeplechase adds an extra level of difficulty where the dogs must navigate hurdles on the track to reach the end!

UKC WEIGHT PULL

UKC DASH & STEEPLECHASE

UKC DOCK JUMPING

Weight Pull offers dogs an opportunity to perform a function that comes naturally to them - pulling enthusiastically.

In this event, dogs are harnessed and then pull a weighted cart or sled a predetermined distance, with one minute to do so. From small to large, any dog can excel at this sport!

UKC DOCK JUMPING

UKC DOCK JUMPING

For dogs that love to make a splash! UKC dock jumping is a canine aquatic sport where dogs run down a specialized dock and leap into a pool of water to retrieve a thrown toy or reach a target, testing a dog's natural athleticism, speed, and drive.

Other Fun Stuff

Breed Spotlights

At each of our meetings one of our members highlights their chosen breed and teaches us all about them! In this photo, Pearl the Silken Windhound (owned and loved by Kassandra Andrews) was telling us all about her unique attributes. ;-)

Trick of the Month Challenge

Each month we encourage our members to teach their dog a new trick! Some tricks in the past have been to wave, spin, weave through legs, run around an object, and even ring a bell! TOTM is a fun way to challenge yourself and spend fun time with your furry best friend!

Juniors Program

Juniors are our future and our Junior mentorship program helps to teach the youth of NE Kansas and beyond confidence and sportsmanship! Our juniors practice with their dogs (or even borrowed dogs!) in all of the events we offer with some special guidance and also work together on community improvement projects.
